Seven killed in police post attack in Pak
Islamabad, Feb 7 (PTI) In a pre-dawn attack, militants today blew up a security post in Pakistan's Punjab province, killing seven policemen and injuring four others.Witnesses said a group of militants first opened fire at the police post at Qudratabad in Mianwali district and then blew it up. The post collapsed after the powerful explosion.
An Assistant Sub-Inspector and six constables were killed in the attack and four others were injured, officials said.
DSP Jamat Ali Bukhari said the attack was launched at 3.30 am local time on the post, which he described as an important one.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
Four bodies have so far been pulled out of the debris of the post, located in an area bordering the troubled North West Frontier Province. Another police post in the same area was attacked by militants a few days ago.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani condemned the attack on the police post. In separate messages, they expressed indignation at the act and expressed the government's resolve not be cowed down by such attacks.
Zardari also said the operation against militants in the Swat valley and other areas would continue till their elimination. Gilani said the government's writ would be established at all costs and it could not be forced to stop its operations against the militants. PTI
