Who ripped my clothes?

Angry: Riteish Deshmukh refused to reveal the cost of the jackets that have been ripped apart. He has decided to take legal action Airline baggage woes have been dogging the stars of The Unforgettable Tour in the US for some time now. After Amitabh Bachchan and Preity Zinta's bags were misplaced, this time it was Riteish Deshmukh's turn to have a luggage-related disaster.

The actor took an American Airlines flight from Trinidad to Los Angeles via Miami recently. When he opened his baggage in his hotel room, he found that most of his clothes had been slashed in many places with a sharp instrument like a knife or a scissor.Among them were four expensive jackets that have been ripped apart.

The actor told MiD DAY from New York, "I only realised this when I opened my bags in my hotel room. I didn't know what hit me. You read about these things happening to others. You never imagine it would happen to you. It's very obvious that this is deliberate and not an accident. I am talking to my lawyers.

"The damaged clothes were his own and not his show clothes. He refuses to reveal how much they cost, saying "It's not about how much they cost. It's about the intention. I don't have a problem with them breaking my lock. I wasn't aware that in America, you are not allowed to lock the check-in luggage. I don't know if it was the customs at Miami or the luggage handlers. But they cannot open my bags in my absence. Do it in front of me and, if you think something is wrong and want to rip the jackets, then tell me and do it."

The US Transportation Security Administration database reveals that between 2006 and 2008 nearly 42,000 travellers have reported items as lost from their luggage at an estimated value of more than $31 million (Rs 130 crore). Items lost the most include medicines, clothing, fine jewelry, laptops, perfume, and even cell phones.
