Reward hiked in kidnap case

NEW DELHI: This is one of the last cases that inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who fell to terrorists' bullets in Batla House encounter, was investigating. Almost five months after their failure to make any headway in the kidnapping of a teenager, police have now increased the reward amount in the case.

The 16-year-old boy, Chirag Khandelwal, son of a businessman in Keshavpuram, was kidnapped when he had gone to attend tuition in August last year.

Chirag's father Suresh runs garment business in north Delhi. Kidnappers also demanded ransom from the family but after a few calls, they did not turn up. The case which was given to Sharma has been transferred to northern range of special cell. The reward for any information on the case has been increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 50000. A case of kidnapping for ransom has been registered at Keshavpuram police station.

In another development, Delhi Police has declared a reward of Rs 50,000 on information on dreaded criminal Krishan Pehalwan, who is alleged to be involved in over 20 cases of murder, attempt to murder, Arms Act, in Delhi and NCR.

Thirty seven-year-old Pehalwan was was last arrested by special cell in 1998 but he managed to get bail later. He had been declared proclaimed offender in various cases.
