ATS seeks custody of IM member from Crime branch

Mumbai, Feb 18 (PTI) Maharashtra police's Anti Terrorism squad(ATS) with whom Mumbai's Crime Branch never shared evidence relating to possible involvement of Indian Mujahideen(IM) in the Mumbai serial train blasts now wants one of its members in their custody for questioning.

"We would like to question Sadik Shaikh regarding his possible involvement in the serial blasts case," Additional Director General of Police (Anti-Terrorism Squad) K P Raghuvanshi told PTI today.

Sources in the ATS said though the name of Shaikh had never figured in its investigations, they would now still like to question him since the Crime Branch had been claiming that he may be having a role. The ATS has also sought sanction for his prosecution under MCOCA.

The ATS had approached Crime Branch earlier for sharing all the details about the involvement of Indian Mujahideen in the Mumbai serial train blasts in 2006 but the latter never responded, the sources said, adding that all they heard was through media.

A chargesheet has been filed by the ATS against 13 persons for their involvement in the serial train blasts in which 187 persons were killed.

At a press conference following arrest of the 21 Indian Mujahideen members, police had said some members of the outfit had participated in the Mumbai serial blast. But there was no mention of it in the chargesheet yesterday. PTI
